What is Art From Anxiety?

Art therapy is offered by graduate level Counselor with a specialized education to practice as an Art Therapist. Art Therapy processes and applications are presented in clinical settings so as to support the individual in ways traditional talk therapy may not.

Therapeutic Art, or art-as-therapy, are safe and accessible creative processes that offer relief, validation and awareness through reminders of values necessary for coping, outside of a clinical setting. Therapeutic art can be useful for supporting one’s self-growth / self-healing journey, reparenting oneself, emotional awareness, anxiety relief, increasing mindfulness and maintaining through daily stressors and setbacks.

Megan Mitts

about

Megan grew up in Cincinnati, OH before getting her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Miami University (OH) and Master of Arts in Art Therapy from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (IN). Megan struggled with anxiety and depression since a young age and could oftentimes be found making art as a way to express herself and feel better about the world around her. With this innate love of art and experiencing its potential in supporting her mental health needs, Megan pursued a career as an art therapist to better understand the potential of the arts in supporting a variety of functions and needs.

supporting others

Megan’s professional art therapy experience includes over 5 years of:

  • social emotional learning for special education programs

  • individual and family support for neurodivergent kids and adults

  • individual and group art therapy for eating recovery programs

Through these professional experiences, Megan noticed a need for more affordable, accessible, and adaptable ways for people to cope better. Megan developed AFA to share therapeutic art activities, processes and insights to support the values necessary for recovery, self-healing, and maintenance.
